A moment before saying goodbye
Sit on Nick Statham’s hand crafted wooden benches in the Terminal 1 Departures area and, chances are, you won’t want to leave. The Perth-based furniture designer’s aerodynamic, fluid design makes it seem the furniture could itself take flight.
Faced with the clean lines of the terminal’s interior, Nick was inspired to produce tactile and organic shapes, reminiscent of Western Australia’s ancient landforms.
“To me, Perth Airport represented a unique cultural intersection where a great diversity of people would cross paths. As an artist living in Perth I aim to develop a unique visual language expressed through sculptural form which is derived from a deepening sense of place with the Western Australian physical and cultural landscape.” – Nick Statham
