London calling - first direct flight from London touches down at Perth Airport

The flight arrived into Australia’s newest international terminal at Perth Airport’s Terminal 3 (T3) which has seen major development and upgrades over the past 12 months.

Passengers who made the journey direct from London were welcomed by a traditional Aboriginal Welcome to Country, and a “Welcome to WA” pack including a stuffed toy quokka and sunscreen.

Perth Airport Chief Executive Officer Kevin Brown said the Qantas inaugural flight arrival from London is a historic moment for WA, as Perth becomes not only a gateway to the United Kingdom but Australia’s Western Hub.

“This flight puts Perth and Western Australia on the map and we look forward to working with Qantas and the State Government to firmly drive international tourism,” Mr Brown said.

“Tourism is a key economic driver in WA, generating 109,000 jobs and injecting $11.9 billion into the Western Australian economy.

“We know that the introduction of one new international route can add at least $70 million to the economy, and a service which offers direct access not only to the UK but the entire European network can deliver massive opportunities for growth in tourism, trade and jobs in WA.

“The new integrated terminal will swing between domestic and international operations which provides flexibility and a seamless journey for passengers who are transiting from international to a regional destination which is fantastic news for tourism in WA,” Mr Brown said.

“As Australia’s Western Hub, Perth Airport is committed to developing new and exciting routes and we look forward to working with Qantas in the development of this new service and future routes,” Mr Brown said.
