Perth Airport's Commercial Developments Continue to Take Off

22 August, 2016
With an extensive portfolio of existing industrial premises, and a significant vacant land holding, Perth Airport is progressively developing land that is not required for current or future aviation purposes and has become the destination of choice for a number of large industrial business operators over recent years.

“The creation of four premium property precincts - Airport North, Airport South, Airport West and Airport Central - and the completion of a number of large design and construct projects for national and multi-national tenants, has well and truly put the Perth Airport estate on the top of the list of preferred commercial locations in the metro area,” said Perth Airport’s Executive General Manager Property, Steve Holden.

“With easy access to Tonkin Highway, as well as the upgraded major road networks aligned with Gateway WA, we pride ourselves on providing a high-quality, modern industrial estate which has seen interest and demand continue to grow despite current economic conditions,” he continued.

AIRPORT SOUTH

Adjacent to Horrie Miller Drive, the Airport South development has focussed on the demand for large, high-quality workshops and warehouses and includes:

  • The new state-of-the-art 3,100sqm Siemens Large Drive Service Centre which opened in September 2015.  Perth Airport was selected by Siemens to design, construct and lease new industrial premises to accommodate their large drive service centre.
  • The brand new 5,250sqm office and warehouse facility which houses the new State Distribution Centre for German multinational, Fuchs Lubricants – the world’s largest independent manufacturer and supplier of specialised lubricants – with approximately 2,200sqm of warehouse still available for lease.
  • The new 3,000sqm office and warehouse facility for FedEx which is more than twice the size of the company’s previous facility.  The new site’s proximity to the Perth cargo terminal, along with better highway entry points, improves FedEx’s ability to retrieve and distribute freight.

 AIRPORT WEST

Opportunities abound in Airport West, which benefits from new access roads at the Dunreath Drive and Tonkin Highway interchange, delivered through the Gateway WA project.

This has created an exciting opportunity for approximately 28 hectares of land to be primed for retail development, forming the Airport West Retail Park which has the potential for large scale destination retail, hotel or serviced apartments with complimentary convenience offers including:

  • Plans for a new Highway Services Centre which will include a service station, food and beverage outlets and drive-thru facilities.  The proposed Highway Services Centre will be located within the Airport West Retail Park on Dunreath Drive, and in close proximity to the new Dunreath Drive/Tonkin Highway interchange.

  • In May 2016, Perth Airport was pleased to announce a joint venture with Vicinity Centres to develop and jointly own a Direct Factory Outlet (DFO) on the airport estate.  The DFO will be located on a nine hectare site offering around 24,000m2 of lettable space.  The DFO will contain more than 110 tenancies comprised of specialty outlets, predominantly fashion, together with a creative mix of food and beverage offerings.

Perth Airport is also working with closely with the State Government by providing land and access for the $2 billion Forrestfield-Airport link which will provide reliable public transport connections to the airport estate.  The first trains are scheduled to be running on the line by 2020, which will further enhance the desirability of operating from the Perth Airport estate.
